The brief.

Dennis runs private charters out of Kelowna on a 26-foot Kingfisher, year round, seven days a week, and he captains every trip himself. That is a genuinely better product than a big operation putting you on a shared boat with whoever is free that day · but only if a stranger can tell the difference in the ten seconds they spend on your site. The job was to make the owner-operated part obvious immediately, put the real prices and the real photos in front of people, and make booking as easy as it actually is: one phone call.

How I built it.

  • 01A hero that shows the actual catch. Nobody books a charter off a stock photo of a boat · the first thing you see is a real trophy rainbow held over the side, shot on a real trip, with the price and the phone number in the same view.
  • 02The captain is the product, so the captain is on the page. Dennis runs every trip himself, never a stand-in mate, never a shared boat. That is the whole reason someone picks a small operator over a big one, so it sits above the fold instead of buried in an About page.
  • 03Prices published, not hidden behind an enquiry form. Half day, full day, and short trips are all listed with what is included. A charter is a considered purchase and people will not phone to find out if they can afford it.
  • 04Booking built around how he actually takes bookings: a phone. Call or text Dennis, pick a trip, show up. Three steps, the number tappable on every screen, no form that sits in an inbox while the good weather passes.
  • 05Seven lakes, named. Okanagan, Skaha, Kalamalka, Mabel, Shuswap, the Arrow Lakes, and Kinbasket each get named on the page, because "fishing charter Kelowna" is only one of the searches that matters and the launch towns are searches of their own.
  • 06Hand-coded and fast on a phone. Most of this traffic is someone standing on a dock or sitting in a truck deciding what to do tomorrow. A slow site loses that person before the first photo loads.

The results.

More chartersbooked since the site went live, by his own count
“Found you on Google”what new customers keep telling him
No dashboardhe does not track numbers, so none are claimed here

Dennis says he is booking more charters than before the site launched, and that new customers tell him they found him through Google and the website. He runs a boat, not an analytics dashboard, so that is the honest version · a percentage here would be one I made up, and a made-up number is worth less than a real sentence from the person who lived it.

The outcome.

Dennis now has one link that does the whole sales conversation before the phone rings. The trip someone wants, what it costs, what is included, who is driving the boat, and proof of what came out of the water · all answered before he picks up. The calls he takes are people who have already decided, which is the difference between a website that collects enquiries and one that fills a calendar.

The structure is built for the season too. Each lake and launch town is named on the page, so as the site ages it has a real shot at the searches that matter beyond “fishing charter Kelowna” · and the same plain, factual pages are what an AI answer engine can quote when somebody asks it where to fish in the Okanagan.
