For a small Kelowna business, the useful AI work is mostly behind the scenes: texting back missed calls, sending every new lead straight to your phone, drafting review replies in your voice, following up on quotes, and a website chat agent that answers real questions and books jobs. With Elliot Digital each automation starts at $1,500 setup and $49 a month. What I don’t recommend is letting AI write your social posts or your whole website, because people can tell.
Every marketing company in Kelowna now says it does AI. Most of the time that means a chatbot or a pile of AI-written posts. Neither is what moves the needle for a small business. Here’s where I think AI earns its keep, where it doesn’t, and what it costs.
Where AI is worth paying for
Jobs that happen often, follow the same steps, and cost you money when they slip. A missed call gets a text back within seconds, so the caller doesn’t move on to the next name on Google. Every form submission is texted to your phone instead of sitting in an inbox. New Google reviews get a drafted reply that mentions what the customer actually said, posted automatically or held for your approval. Quotes get followed up on your timeline and stop the moment the customer replies. A chat agent on your website answers questions about your services, prices and hours, and takes a message when it doesn’t know.
Where it isn’t
I don’t use AI to write social media posts or whole websites. People can tell, and generic content does nothing for a local business that wins on trust. I also won’t automate a job that happens twice a month, or one where your judgment is the point. If something isn’t worth automating, I’ll say so on the call.
Showing up in AI search
There’s a second side to AI marketing: being the business ChatGPT, Google’s AI answers and Copilot mention when someone asks for a recommendation. That comes from the same things that help on Google, like clear service pages, accurate business details everywhere, and real proof of your work. I wrote about it in how to show up in ChatGPT and AI search, and my AI search page covers how I handle it.
What it costs
Each automation is set up and billed on its own, with no bundle and no contract.
| Item | Cost (CAD) |
|---|---|
| Setup, one automation or a website chat agent | From $1,500 |
| Running cost, each automation | $49 a month |
| AI model usage | At cost, usually a few dollars a month |
| Larger custom builds | Quoted per job |
Where to start
With the job that costs you the most while you’re busy. For trades, that’s usually missed calls. For clinics and restaurants, it’s after-hours questions and booking. For anyone with a Google Business Profile, it’s review replies. See everything I build on my AI automation page, or book a free thirty minute call and tell me the part of your week you’d most like back. Prices are plus applicable GST/HST.
Common questions
What can AI do for a small business in Kelowna?
The most useful jobs are missed-call text-back, sending leads straight to your phone, drafting review replies, following up on quotes, appointment reminders, and a website chat agent trained on your business.
How much does AI automation cost?
With Elliot Digital, setup starts at $1,500 per automation and each one is $49 a month to run, plus model usage at cost. CAD plus applicable GST/HST.
Should I use AI to write my social media posts?
I don’t recommend it. Generic AI posts don’t build trust for a local business. Use AI for repetitive admin and follow-up, and keep your content in your own voice.
Will an AI chat agent make things up?
It shouldn’t, if it’s set up properly. It answers from approved information about your business and takes a message when it doesn’t know.
