When someone searches "kelowna flooring" or "lake country web design," Google shows a small map and three local businesses above the standard results. That box is the "map pack" (or "local pack"). Showing up there is the local-SEO holy grail.
Three things drive map-pack placement: proximity (Google guesses where the searcher is), relevance (does your category and keywords match?), and prominence (reviews, citations, links, age of profile). You can't move proximity, but you can build relevance and prominence.
Most Okanagan businesses leak the most points on review velocity — they have great reviews, but they got them all in 2022 and nothing since.
